August 2010
Launched in 2008, Weymouth & Portland artists' group Artwey continues to go from strength to strength. The Summer/Autumn exhibition season has been very successful so far with many Artwey members having already participated in either Dorset Art Weeks  and / or the Spirit of the Sea Festival exhibition held at Pilgrim House, Weymouth. To finish the season with a flourish, the group are again mounting their local Open Studios event which is scheduled to take place between the 11th-26th of September, 2010.
The first of these tours proved extremely popular last Autumn, both with local residents and visitors to the borough. The showcasing event provides art lovers with an opportunity to view and purchase the wide range of artwork and unique products that are made locally and also to meet many of the artisans who live and work here. Artwey member artists work in a variety of media and include painters, printmakers, jewellery designers, sculptors, textile artists, weavers, potters, glass workers and  photographers – demonstrating the rich diversity of visual art made throughout Dorset.
During last year’s Open Studios thousands of visitors attended the art exhibition that Artwey members had on show at their central exhibition venue in the Museum Gallery at Brewer’s Quay. Due to the overwhelming success of this “Taster” exhibition Artwey will once again be communally installed at the Museum Gallery this September, while simultaneously hosting individual and gallery exhibitions at a number of venues around Weymouth and Portland. The opening times for these satellite venues will vary and it is highly recommended that visitors confirm these in advance. Additional information will be available via the Artwey website and also from the routemap guide. At a glance these sources will provide a clear overview of where the participating venues are located, their accessibility, opening times and of course what’s on show!
The routemap will also be an asset if you plan to visit multiple locations and has been designed to help visitors co ordinate journeys between venues. These guides will become available through various local outlets in advance of the event – Weymouth Tourist Information Office, Jezebel’s Jewels (St. Mary’s St., Weymouth), The Full Gamut Art Gallery (Chickerell Rd.,Weymouth), The Portland Arts Centre (Brymer’s Ave, Fortuneswell), Whitestones Cafe (Easton), The Upwey Pottery (Upwey) to name a few. If you require further information please make enquiries at any of the above locations.
Please join us and support the arts in our region!
